Plausible Artworlds is a collaborative initiative that aims to provide a platform for examining and accompanying the emergence of plural artistic environments. This comes in context of ever growing numbers of art-related practices both requiring artworld settings different from those currently on offer, and proactively involved in bringing them into existence. Artists’ ideas about, and experiments with, alternate artworlds will be made accessible through a series of 50 weekly email broadcasts and live events, culminating in an online and printed publication.

proposed Potlucks

All about Potlucks.  Recipes.  Cooking as a group.  Cooking for large groups.  Can this way of eating and sharing become a daily or weekly experience?

In an effort to facilitate extended pedagogical efforts, courses are proposed weekly on The Public School website, informed by Plausible Artworld discussions.  Plausible Artworlds is a an ongoing event which  collects and shares knowledge about alternative models of creative practice.  The project currently operates as  a weekly public potluck hosted at Basekamp (http://basekamp.com) in Philadelphia.   More information can be seen at http://www.plausibleartworlds.org.

This course could research and share examples of alternative real estate, such as the giveaway and the selling of marginal unbuildable land as advertising promotions, micro real estate, and the selling of stars, to name just a few.

Inspired by the a Basekamp potluck chat on April 6th 2010, this class could explore readings centered around the philosophical underpinnings of a democracy and their shared similarities or differences with contemporary open source software and culture.

On Tuesday Stephen Wright wrote, "John Dewey wrote a fascinating book called "The Public and its Problems", arguing (on the basis of the early American townships experience) that there is no such thing as a "public" that then encounters some problems. It is through the articulation of problems, the experience of encountering problems and sharing them with others that a "public" emerges. A public in the generic sense -- a society, a community, what have you. And when that problem raising becomes self-conscious then you have a genuine, self-conscious public community. Sounds a bit like freenode, no?"

In this course we could read "The Public and its Problems" and investigate Dewey's thoughts on "public" and "democracy"  and whether open source contemporary culture/software such as Freenode is built on a similar premise; it being a public entity born from discontent and as an articulation of societal shortcomings.

Each participant could prepare, before the initial class meeting, a short presentation on an 'experimental' school of their choice.  Defining the school's location, philosophy, primary concerns, and community that it serves could be a good starting point.

Examples may fall under the rubric of progressive charters, free schools, and art related pedagogical experiments.  A School of Decreative Methodologies could be one of the examples explored.

This class could look at the aestheticization of corporate culture and it's relationship with certain artworks.  How does design, architecture, social spaces, food, and language in the workplace intersect with certain organizational/administrative artworks during the last 40 or so years?  We will also spend time looking at the works of Orgacom in detail.

A relevant read which may be worth exploring:

With a similar intent to the Community Museum Project, we will start a community museum which is committed to "articulate personal experiences and under-represented histories."  In this course we could develop an execution plan and consider what types of under-represented  histories this new museum  would like to represent and how these histories could be organized as exhibitions-- Where would the museum be located?   What is it's funding structure? What would an exhibition look like?  How would these offerings be any different from a local historical museum? Does the museum have a physical address?

Inspired by "At Work/ Au Travail"  this class would  make  class participants'  workplaces environments for"clandestine art production."  We will use the At Work/ Au Travail website  as a reference point. This course could involve developing 'making environments' for yourself and others such as adhoc rehearsal and work spaces, stages for art installation and performance, printing workshops.  This class could  be about developing a loose web of resources from various workplaces and repurposing them for making art.
